Environment Programme


Since the inception of the project the Government of Bangladesh has been aware of the potential impact of a development of this scale on the environment. The Environment programme have been, therefore, an important and integral part of the project.
Much of the implementation of this programme is being undertaken through major NGO to ensure the programme objectives are fully met and sustained and not constrained to assistance only during the project period.

 
Environment Management Action Plan 
The aim of the Environmental Management Action Plan or EMAP is to mitigate any detrimental environmental effects of the project including those that may impact on the nature of employment and livelihood of those in the project area. 

EMAP contains components relating to: 

 

  • Boat Navigation 
  • Fisheries 
  • Water Quality 
  • Social Afforestation 
  • Wildlife 
 
  A range of activities have been have undertaken under these components.  
  • Construction related environmental impacts have been closely monitored
  • Training in pisciculture have been provided
  • Wildlife monitoring and protection programmes have been completed
  • Trees have been planted 
  • Health education campaigns have been completed 
  • Water quality and the effects on wildlife are being monitored 
  • Pond fish culture development programmes are being implemented
