The Bangabandhu Bridge Tourism Development Project (BBTBP)
Proposals are being invited from interested developers for a 30 year concession
to develop the Eastern end of the bridge site into a tourist and leisure
facility.
It is expected that the development will include a golf course,
hotel and conference facilities.
An initial invitation to submit expressions of interest generated a
keen response and JMBA is now looking forward to the evaluation of proposals
which will result in the transformation of the area at the bridge end into
popular leisure destination
Project Archives
A considerable amount of written material has been produced in relation
to the project. This includes the initial feasibility studies, contract
documentation, progress reports and countless other documents. This material
is not only of interest to historians. There are many lessons to learn
on the implementation of a complex project such as this. Lessons which
will assist in the implementation of future projects.
To ensure maximum use is made of the documentation produced on
the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge Project, JMBA is commissioning a comprehensive
archiving exercise which will utilise modern technology (for example cd
storage and hypertext links) to enable information to be searched for and
retrieved on all aspects of the project.
This initiative is being supported and financed by the project

Bangabandhu Bridge - The Book!
Another initiative carrying the full support of the Co-Financiers, contractors
and consultants concerned with the project is the publication of a book.
This will contain the essential information relating to the experience
of constructing the bridge. The contractors and consultants working with
JMBA have all expressed a willingness to contribute to this venture by
the provision of funds, and individuals within these organisations have
offered their services to write appropriate chapters or sections of the
publication. Completion is expected by December 1999.
